This isn't your common cattail, but a hybrid with striking cream variegation. Growing into dense stands that tower an amazing 8 feet, this cattail makes a perfect border screen or an eye-catching backdrop to your pondscape or water garden. Its thin, sword-like green leaves, accented by cream-colored stripes, reach full height by late spring.
At the top of the narrow stems grow the distinctive nutmeg-brown, velvety seedpods which give cattails their name. These 3" cigar-shaped pods eventually open to release white fluffy seeds.
Plant cattails 1" - 6" below water level for best results. This relatively fast-growing plant will spread with runners to fill out bare areas and create a lush pondscape.
